Thursday Set Up

1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

On the Thursday afternoon before Adoption Day, we set up the 7 courtrooms with books, stuffed animals and other items we give to each family during the event.  In addition, we set up the photography room, the reception area and the registration area.  Volunteers will assist in getting each of these areas ready for the families, judges and guests the next day.

Friday Set Up

6:30 am - 8:30 am

On the morning of Adoption Day, final preparations are completed before families and guests arrive.  Volunteers who assist here will help with blowing up the balloons for each courtroom and getting all of the refreshments and drinks set up and ready for the guests to enjoy.

Friday Anywhere You Need Me

7:30 am - 1:00 pm

Volunteers who register for Anywhere You Need Me are willing to help in any area that assistance is needed.  This could range from acting as a family escort or courtroom aide, to helping at one of the registration tables, with parking or in one of the other common areas. A volunteer assignment will be given as the event gets closer and the area of need is identified.

Friday Family Escort

7:30 am - 1:00 pm

Each family at Adoption Day is provided a family escort to assist them throughout the day.  The volunteer assists the family with navigating the courthouse, ensuring the family is at the assigned courtroom for the adoption at the correct time, helping the family with getting their first photograph taken, and ensuring the family is able to visit the reception area where there are post adoption information tables, refreshments and give aways for the adopted children.  Family escorts are also asked to help clean up the common areas and courtrooms at the end of the day.

Each volunteer is given a checklist for the day, a map of the courthouse and a schedule of events for the day.  You can also read this information here.

Friday Courtroom Aide

7:30 am - 1:00 pm

In each of the 7 courtrooms used to complete adoptions for families, we assign two courtroom aides.  One aide is responsible for greeting families at the door and making sure all the members are present with their attorney prior to the adoption.  This aide also ensures that the family meets with the district clerks prior to leaving the courtroom area, to get their final Adoption Decree.

The second courtroom aide is assigned to be inside the courtroom to assist the judge.  The aide will ensure that each family is given all the items provided to the families, that the families and attorneys take all their items with them at the end of the adoption, and help with photos.  This aide is also responsible for ensuring the courtroom stays on schedule.

Each volunteer is given a checklist for the day, a map of the courthouse and a schedule of events for the day.  You can also read this information here.

Friday Registration Tables

7:30 am - 1:00 pm

Registration tables for the families, volunteers, attorneys, media and guests of the families are set up to assist those attending Adoption Day.  Each table is manned by multiple volunteers to ensure that guests and families are able to quickly move through the registration area.  Volunteers at each of these tables will answer questions, check in families, attorneys or guests and, most importantly, welcome those attending Adoption Day so that the day begins in a positive and happy manner.

Each volunteer is given a checklist for the day, a map of the courthouse and a schedule of events for the day.  You can also read this information here.
